Beppe Bergomi believes Mauro Icardi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain is good for all concerned. ‘This club doesn’t have the prestige of Inter, but it can win.’

The striker already spent this season on loan at PSG after Antonio Conte and the Nerazzurri hierarchy warned he was not part of the project last summer.

Today, he completed the transfer for a reported €50m plus €8m in bonuses – on top of the €13m paid for the loan spell.

“Inter had already made their decision on Icardi last year,” club legend and 1982 World Cup winner Bergomi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Considering the way the situation had evolved, I think PSG represent the best choice for all concerned. Icardi has joined a club that doesn’t have the prestige of Inter, but it has won the Ligue 1 title and can technically still win the Champions League.

“Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku has done a fantastic job of replacing Icardi, so everyone is happy.”
