“We tried to fight it out with the best, but Juventus have a much larger squad and were able to call on many more options. We did what we could in our first game back after four months,” said the coach in his press conference.

“I am convinced the more we play, the better we’ll get, so I feel more confident going into tomorrow’s match. We’ve worked on the concepts, now we’re focusing on the details, because those do make the difference.

“It was a good signal that I gave the team the day off, with the option to come in if they wanted to, and all but four players turned up.”

Sampdoria lost both their games since the lockdown 2-1, to Inter and Roma, but remain just above the relegation zone.

“It’s a physical team, they play pretty well and I hope they avoid the drop, because I love that city and that club,” added Mihajlovic.

“My friend (Sampdoria President Massimo) Ferrero even came to visit me when I was in the hospital. I hope for the best for Samp and am cheering them on this season.”
