Vincenzo Montella’s Catania are in the race for Europe after beating Lazio, but he insists reports of a job lined up with Inter or Napoli are “fantasy football.”

The former Roma Coach only began his management career midway through last season, but has taken the Elefantini to joint sixth place level on points with Inter and Roma.

“Our campaign is going above and beyond the rosiest expectations and I’d say we are certainly proving that we deserve to be in this position,” said Montella after a 1-0 win over Lazio.

“Today Catania showed good football, understood the various phases of the game and the right moment to strike.

“Are we aiming for the Europa League? Now we have to set ourselves some targets that are higher than the previous ones, because ambition is necessary for growth.”

The former striker has been linked with the benches at both Napoli and Inter for next season.

“It’s too early to talk about this, as I have a contract with Catania and both those clubs have Coaches already.

“For the moment it’s all fantasy football, even if naturally it would be nice to go to Napoli where my family lives.”
