Roma win doesn’t satisfy Enrique

Roma boss Luis Enrique was critical of his side after the 1-0 win over Genoa in the Monday night Serie A game.

The Giallorossi moved to within four points of third-placed Lazio in the standings, but the Spaniard wasn’t convinced by his side at the Olimpico.

“The objective was to win the 12 games left after the derby and we have started well with two victories,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “However, I didn’t like our performance despite the result.

“We suffered a lot and we lost too many balls. Genoa caused us some problems by playing an excellent game.”

Roma were without captain Francesco Totti because of injury, but that excuse was dismissed by the former Barcelona B boss.

“I don’t think we missed Totti,” he added. “We were too timid in our pressing after the goal and we made too many mistakes. We have to improve on everything.”

Roma have shown great faith in Enrique and the project which was put into place following the club’s summer sale to American owners.

“I don’t know at what stage we are at with the project,” Enrique continued. “We’ve improved a lot since the very beginning, but we are lacking consistency.

“We are sixth and we deserve that position, but we have to remain optimistic because we can climb higher.”
