Siena have quickly switched their attention back to Serie A safety after their Coppa Italia dream was destroyed by Napoli.
The Tuscan minnows went into last night’s Cup semi-final 2-1 up from the first leg, but the Azzurri won 2-0 in Naples to progress 3-2 on aggregate and set up a date with Juventus.
“It’s a shame as the goals that we conceded were avoidable,” boss Giuseppe Sannino commented after the game.
“But it is only normal for a team like Siena to go to Napoli, in a stadium like the San Paolo, and lose the tie.
“After all, my players come from the Serie B championship. Overall though, we put in a great performance.
“Now all that matters is safety and we are all concentrating on this objective.”
Siena, who were promoted last season under the guidance of current Juventus boss Antonio Conte, are currently 15th in the table – but only six points clear of the drop zone.
