Lazio Coach Edy Reja is suspended, so assistant manager Giovanni Lopez warns they “cannot afford more mistakes” against Cagliari.
The Biancocelesti are still hanging on to the third Champions League place despite two consecutive defeats, while Miroslav Klose is out for a month with a thigh strain.
“Considering the results of the other teams and our position in the table, we must absolutely win. We relaxed too much against Bologna, while we were unlucky in Catania and just failed to score,” said Lopez.
“Missing Klose means we are without the icing on the cake. No doubt we’ll miss something in terms of finishing skills, but don’t forget we already played without him to earn a draw with Napoli and beat Milan. I don’t know if we’ll change system, but we are considering a diamond midfield.”
The assistant manager denied reports Hernanes could be rested due to poor form, but could not help expressing annoyance at the slew of injury problems.
“We had Andre Dias out for a couple of months, Giuseppe Biava and Abdoullay Konko out for three months, Stefan Radu for two to three months. Lazio played really well with the first choice defence, but that hardly ever happened.
“Cagliari are a dangerous side, above all Andrea Cossu and Mauricio Pinilla. The first gives unpredictability to their play, while the Chilean is physically strong and brimming with confidence after his hat-trick against Cesena.”
