Christian Abbiati insists that his Milan side have a 50 per cent chance of dumping Barcelona out of the Champions League.

The two teams meet at San Siro on Wednesday night in the first leg of their last eight European showdown.

“Our chances of qualification will start at 50 per cent,” the goalkeeper told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “After all, we are Milan.

“We played two excellent games against them in the group stages, even if we did suffer a bit in the match in Spain.”

The Nou Camp tie ended in a 2-2 draw, while Barca won at the Stadio Meazza thanks to a 3-2 victory.

“They create 20 scoring opportunities per game, so we therefore have to take advantage of the chances we have,” added the former Italian international.

“Lionel Messi? I am perfectly aware that he is the best player in the world, but Barcelona are not just Messi.

“He’s a player who can’t be analysed because he is so unpredictable, but the game won’t be Messi against me!”
