Edinson Cavani is desperate to make an immediate return to the Champions League but insists it won’t determine his future with Napoli.
Napoli currently sit one place and three points behind the final Champions League qualification spot in the League table, with nine games to go.
Looking ahead to the first of those - this weekend’s clash with Coppa Italia final opponents Juventus - Cavani was keen to stress the desire within the dressing room to return to UEFA’s prime competition.
“We respect the Bianconeri a lot, but our goal is to secure third place,” said the striker on Radio Marte.
“The Champions League was a unique experience and we want to contest in it again.
“It would be great and this time we will be even more prepared and clever, as [Coach Walter] Mazzarri says, as the true creator of our results. He has managed the group perfectly.
“I’d like to win the Coppa Italia. A trophy in this shirt would be great, but now I repeat that focus is just about the League. We have a target to hit.”
The Uruguayan also moved to clarify that Napoli securing Champions League football this season will not be a determining factor for his future there.
“It does not depend at all on qualifying for the Champions League or not. I do not think about it, I will only say that I am happy here, I’m fine.
“My son was born in this city and the warmth of the people is unique. Sooner or later there will come a time, but for now I’m focused only on Napoli.”
