Andrea Stramaccioni insists Inter must “reply to the fans on the field and not in front of microphones” with a great performance against Genoa on his debut.

The 36-year-old Coach was promoted from the Primavera youth team on Monday night to replace Claudio Ranieri and prepares for his first foray into Serie A or, for that matter, a senior squad.

“I am satisfied with this week, as it was positive in training and we got to know each other. We want to reply to the fans on the field and not in front of microphones. That is what my lads want and they are extraordinary professionals.

“We want to turn this season around, especially the negative trend of recent weeks. I have little to say, other than this: please stand by us. Enough words, as from Sunday afternoon we will give our all and even more to keep the fans happy.

“I may be inexperienced, but I know that the week only becomes truly great from Sunday evening… It will be the best Inter possible right now. I brought my ideas and we hope to reap the first rewards.”

It has been reported Stramaccioni will adopt a 4-3-3 formation with Mauro Zarate getting a rare start.

“I have to choose a middle ground between what was yesterday and what I want to do. What I see at the training ground has to be combined with my ideas. Zarate has undoubted quality and if he hasn’t been able to show that so far, there must be a reason, but I am focused only on the present.

“I remain the same man, but now I also feel that I am the Inter Coach and want to do well for this club. We want to send a signal, show who we are and cancel out all the negative things that were said about the team. The only way to do that is to stop talking and get to work.”

Naturally, the 36-year-old was asked how he will feel when stepping out of the tunnel into San Siro.

“The biggest surge of emotion I’ve had was walking into the locker room. It will be an incredible sensation to go into San Siro, but from the opening whistle I will focus only on the game.

“Did Jose Mourinho send me a congratulatory text message? I doubt he even knows who I am! President Massimo Moratti was here at training today and it shows how much he cares about the team. I was asked nothing except to beat Genoa. In truth, I don’t even know who our next game after that is against.”

Douglas Maicon and Wesley Sneijder are on the treatment table.
