Francesco Guidolin assures Udinese are “not dead yet” and should still be proud of competing for Europe.

The Friulani had the opportunity to snatch third place after Lazio’s defeat on Saturday night, but themselves fell 1-0 at Siena.

“We missed a good chance to get a result,” confessed the Coach. “Siena played better in the first half, while we improved after the break and were only unable to score.

“Once again today we showed that we are in good physical shape, but are not sharp. There are some difficulties, but we are not dead yet and if we are in Europe next season then there’s only reason to celebrate.

“We still have the strength to get the claws out in these final weeks and cling to the European places, as it’ll probably be decided in the head-to-head meetings.”

Fans are increasingly disappointed, as it looks as if Udinese will only go into the Europa League rather than the Champions League.

“At the start of the season, if they’d told me we would be in this position at this stage, I wouldn’t have believed them,” insisted Guidolin.

“European competition – no matter which tournament – is a prestigious achievement for Udinese.”
