Pasquale Marino admits Genoa “made it easy for Inter” with some disastrous defending and could risk the axe after the epic 5-4 defeat.

The Grifone were 3-0 down after 38 minutes at San Siro and both teams went down to 10 men in the nine-goal thriller.

“We made it easy for Inter and opened the gate for them with too many mistakes,” said Marino.

“There are regrets, as when we started actually playing, the game changed. It’s not easy to score four goals at San Siro and we gave the Nerazzurri too many gifts.”

The club could now wield the axe again, as their defending has not really improved since Alberto Malesani was sacked in December.

“If there are problems and these existed before, then it means we have not been able to find the right balance. We’ve got to improve. It’s not even as if we conceded on the counter-attack, as the defence was in place and simply too distracted.

“Are we looking over our shoulders now? It doesn’t hurt to be careful, but there are eight games to go and I’m confident we can notch up more than 40 points.”
