Daniele De Rossi believes Roma can make a late go of finishing third in Serie A and qualifying for the Champions League this season.

The Giallorossi have struggled for consistency in their first season under Luis Enrique’s coaching and Thomas Di Benedetto’s American ownership that has instigated many changes, but in light of recent results, optimism has returned.

The capital side have won three of their last four games, which combined with recent defeats for Udinese, Napoli and Lazio above, has seen them close the gap on third place and the final Champions League qualification place to just four points.

The rejuvenation has De Rossi suggesting that closing up those four points isn’t out of the question either.

“We must keep believing,” he told TeleRadioStereo on Tuesday.

“The fact that Udinese and Napoli have lost is an added benefit. Luis Enrique rationalises game by game, but now there is an added motivation, we are close and have to keep pedalling.”
