Andrea Stramaccioni says there is “a bitter taste” to Inter’s point against Cagliari, “because we tried to win until the last minute.”
The Nerazzurri had to twice fight back from a goal down in this 2-2 draw and then failed to take full advantage of Mauricio Pinilla’s harsh red card.
“There is a bitter taste to this result, because we tried to win until the last minute. Inter are alive and held out against an excellent Cagliari side in great shape,” said the new Coach.
“We must recognise they put us under pressure, above all at the start of the second half, but for the rest Inter made an impact. We did well in spells, but couldn’t manage the intensity for the entire 90 minutes.
“It is an important note that when conceding the two goals, this team had the strength and character to equalise straight away. I saw a good Inter, even if I know that only the result counts.
“Fredy Guarin made his first Serie A start, so it was a positive performance as far as I am concerned. Obviously his fitness levels aren’t great, so I substituted him after the break.
“With the trident attack we tried a few different options. Mauro Zarate on the left and Diego Forlan on the right works well for both of them. It’s no coincidence the goals came from them.”
Inter could still be in the race for third place and Champions League football, although this result is a setback.
“It looks to me as if there is great balance in Serie A with many unpredictable results. We can only take it one game at a time and see what happens. There’s no point planning a schedule when there are seven rounds left,” added Stramaccioni.
