Napoli are prepared to make Cristian Chivu their highest paid player in order to sign him from Inter this summer.
The Romanian, 31, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the campaign should he not extend his deal with the Nerazzurri in the meantime.
Although his agent has insisted that they have not spoken to any other clubs, calciomercato.com is suggesting that Napoli have been in touch.
Chivu, who currently earns €3.5m a season at San Siro, will be offered a contract worth €2.5m net – around €300,000 more a season than Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The Stadio San Paolo outfit are apparently prepared to offer the former Roma and Ajax player a four-year deal.
Chivu, who has been mainly used as a left-back at San Siro, would seemingly be a good fit in Walter Mazzarri’s three-man defence.
