The 49-year-old Rome-born tactician’s work this week ensured that the Orobici not only secured a first away win at Naples in 15 years and moved up to 40 points, but that speculation over Walter Mazzarri’s position at Napoli intensified.
Over three years since the Vesuviani last suffered a run of three consecutive defeats, which got Edy Reja fired in March 2009, speculation is that the club are considering alternative options for the summer and Colantuono is one of those options.
However, the Atalanta boss has denied this possibility and also taken time to defend Napoli’s performance last night.
“I extended my contract for another year with Atalanta because I believe that this team will compete for goals more important than League safety,” he stated on Radic Crc on Thursday.
“Bergamo is my ideal setting, I’m happy here so I will continue my adventure with Atalanta.
“I don’t judge Napoli, but yesterday it was not easy to play against Atalanta. We played a great game, we gave away little and we countered well. Napoli have also made a few mistakes, but we still did well.”
