Alessandro Del Piero “told us he prefers LA Galaxy or New York, so we abandoned the option,” revealed Montreal Impact.
The Italian legend’s contract with Juventus is up at the end of the season and he has confirmed he will keep playing even if he leaves Turin.
A move to America and the MLS is most likely, but Montreal Impact ruled themselves out of the running.
“In January we contacted Del Piero, but the player turned us down,” director of sport Nick De Santis told TMW.
“The player told us he prefers LA Galaxy or New York, so we took it on board and abandoned the option without coming back to it.
“There has been no further contact, so it’s an old story. Of course, if he were to change his mind, then we certainly wouldn’t slam the door in his face...”
Although the Impact are a Canadian club, they play in the American Major League Soccer tournament.
There are already several ex-Serie A players in Montreal, including Bernardo Corradi and Matteo Ferrari.
