Piermario Morosini’s coffin is making a tour of his favourite places today, given a farewell at Livorno’s Stadio Picchi and tonight in Bergamo.
The Udinese-owned midfielder was on loan at Livorno when he collapsed and died during Saturday’s Serie B game in Pescara.
A second autopsy was completed, as no official cause of death has yet been found, so the body was released to his family.
It is taking a tour of the country so fans can say goodbye and this afternoon there were touching scenes at the Stadio Armando Picchi in Livorno.
‘You are in our hearts,’ sang over 8,000 people in the stands who came to give their farewell as the funeral cortege made a lap of honour in the arena, while music from his favourite singers Ligabue and Jovanotti played over the speakers.
“We will do what we announced previously and that is name a section of the stadium after Piermario,” confirmed Mayor of Livorno Alessandro Cosimi.
The entire Livorno squad was present, all wearing his number 25 jersey, which will be retired.
Morosini is now en route to his hometown of Bergamo for a salute from Atalanta supporters, as he grew up in their youth academy.
The fans will then accompany him to the nearby Monterosso church where he will be lying in state.
