Siena did not expect their trip to Genoa would be a relegation dogfight at this stage of the season, but Giuseppe Sannino will “defend our position tooth and nail.”

The Tuscans are on 39 points, three in front of Genoa, and neither side is safe from the drop yet.

“This is our third consecutive away match and we know it is an important game, as they all are until we achieve safety,” said the Coach.

“It’ll be a game for men. Our objective is to defend our position tooth and nail, because it’s what we deserve and we are earning it game by game.

“As for the rest and what we read in the newspapers, that’ll be dealt with in other arenas. We must only earn our safety on the pitch.”

Sannino was referring to the investigation into a betting scandal and alleged match-fixing from Siena’s Serie B campaign last season.

“We know that Genoa will be fired up and the atmosphere at Marassi will be remarkable, but we mustn’t give them an opportunity to play, otherwise they’ll put us under real pressure.”

Emanuele Calaio is out for the rest of the season, while Matteo Contini and Gianluca Pegolo sit out bans, so Zeljko Brkic should take over between the posts.

Siena squad:Brkic, Farelli, Marcone; Del Grosso, Pesoli, Rossettini, Rossi, Terzi, Vitiello; Bolzoni, Brienza, D’Agostino, Gazzi, Giorgi, Grossi, Mannini, Parravicini, Sestu, Vergassola; Bogdani, Destro, Gonzalez
