Massimo Ficcadenti has identified Cagliari’s two forthcoming home fixtures as crucial to their staying up this season.
The Sardinians welcome Catania to their temporary Trieste home of the Stadio Nereo Rocco on Tuesday evening, before entertaining Chievo there the following Saturday.
Ficcadenti, whose side has slipped to 16th place in the table, just three points above the drop-zone, is targeting maximum points in these next two games so as to stave off the threat of relegation.
“Our survival hinges on the games with Catania and Chievo. We’re missing some points that we could have otherwise taken from Inter and Lazio. The League ranking is a little short in that respect and it is impossible to now quantify the total needed for survival - we must think only of ourselves and winning.
“Let’s turn the page, we must restart for this final month,” the tactician reflected after consecutive defeats at Bologna and Parma.
“Playing away from Cagliari [at Trieste] is something neither we nor the President enjoy, but, we must not think of it. Let’s focus exclusively on the field and the opponent we will face tomorrow.
“Catania are dangerous, especially on the flanks - they have good players in one-on-one situations and will play in a more relaxed state compared to us, without the hassles of a League position on them.”
