Mario Beretta and Cesena say goodbye to Serie A after defeat to Juventus sealed their relegation.
The Sea Horses are mathematically unable to avoid the drop, as Marco Borriello got a last-gasp strike at the Stadio Manuzzi.
“We put in a great performance and it’s a shame, as we were holding on to Juventus despite the strong pressure,” said the Coach.
“We had to use up two substitutions due to injury and that weighed on us. I must compliment my side on their approach.
“The fans asked us to show great character and that is what we did, so we were pleased at their applause at the end of the game. We are happy that we’ve fixed that rapport with the supporters.
“It was already a complicated situation before I got here. We went unbeaten for five in a row, but in my view that was the pride of the players who realised they wanted to end the campaign on a high. We will aim to keep that going.”
