Sergio Gasparin has today been announced as the man to replace Pietro Lo Monaco at Catania and he joins the club immediately.
Outspoken sporting director Lo Monaco confirmed earlier this week the long-standing belief that he would be leaving the Sicilian side in the summer, after more than a decade at the club.
The Elefanti have announced on Thursday afternoon that former Vicenza, Venezia and Messina director general Gasparin will subsequently join the club straight away, to ‘understand the technical structure, management and organisation of the company’ before then assuming Lo Monaco’s role in an official capacity from June 25.
Gasparin spent the 2009-10 season as director general at Udinese, where notably he was responsible for signing rising prospect Luis Muriel, before he went on to endure an unsuccessful few months with Sampdoria, where he resigned in December 2010 after a falling out with President Riccardo Garrone.
