Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani is adamant that the absence of Antonio Cassano and Gennaro Gattuso has cost them dearly this term.

The first was sidelined for six months following minor heart surgery last autumn, while the midfielder was out for even longer because of an eye problem.

“The biggest regret this term, and I told President Silvio Berlusconi this the other day, has to do with Gattuso and Cassano,” stated Galliani.

“With those two at our disposal, we would have had a few more points on the board. These are injuries outside of the norm for a season.”

Milan are still three points shy of Juventus with three games left after Cassano returned to the scoresheet in the 4-1 win at Siena.

The Italian celebrated by hugging doctor Rodolfo Tavana, a man who assisted him when he fell ill on the plane back from Rome last October.

“Tavano has been fundamental to Antonio,” Galliani continued. “He knows how much he did for him on that night.

“Their embrace was beautiful and significant.”

Gattuso, 34, has played in four League games this term, while Cassano has appeared in just 13 so far.
