Reports in Italy are suggesting that Antonio Cassano could be handed a new shirt number next season – the Milan No 10.
The mythical jersey could become available given the possibility that its current owner, Clarence Seedorf, may leave the club.
The Dutch veteran is one of 10 players at San Siro with expiring contracts and it is unclear whether he will be offered a new deal.
Should he move on then his jersey will become free and could be inherited by the Italian international.
Cassano, 29, chose to wear the No 99 shirt following his January 2011 move from Sampdoria.
