“When a club achieves results that are superior to the ones they expected, it means this is a club seeking consistency,” explained Prandelli after lunch with Mazzarri.

“A real club that wants to grow with a winning project is the one that improves year after year. In that sense, Napoli have proved they have a winning project.”

Some fans have been disappointed by this season, especially as the 2-0 defeat to Bologna on Sunday seemed to rule them out of qualification for the Champions League.

“Napoli did well both in Serie A and on a European level. I am certain the club will construct a strong squad over time. The foundations are already solid thanks to some great work from Mazzarri,” continued Prandelli.

“If I was back at my old club Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”14″>Fiorentina and saw them achieve the same results as Napoli this season, then I’d be proud. Therefore I’d say this has certainly been a fantastic campaign.”
