Diego Simeone has thanked Catania for helping him last night win the Europa League with Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine tactician saw his Spanish side beat Liga rivals Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to win the trophy – less than a year after he helped Catania survive the drop in Serie A.
“My past at Catania has helped me to improve as a Coach,” he told Mediaset. “I use a lot of Italian tactics here, mixed in with the quality of Spanish football.”
Simeone knows the Italian game well after playing for Pisa, Lazio and Inter during his career as a midfielder.
Given his impact from the bench, it is no surprise that his name has been linked with a future job at Inter.
“I’m very happy at Atletico Madrid,” he responded. “I have a great rapport with people at Inter, but I saw the Milan derby and they are playing well right now.”
