Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis declared this Coppa Italia was “the first trophy of a rebirth” for the club.
“It is not my first trophy, it is the first of a Napoli rebirth,” said the patron after beating Juventus 2-0.
The Hollywood mogul bought the club and started again from Serie C when it went bankrupt.
The Partenopei had not won any silverware since the Italian Super Cup in 1990, while the last Coppa Italia was in 1987.
“This club was reborn in 2004 and in a few years we brought home success, but also the knowledge Napoli are alive, exist and can be champions in the world of sport.”
