Alessandro Diamanti was a surprise inclusion in Italy’s 32-man long-list for Euro 2012. “Better late than never!”
The 29-year-old Bologna creative midfielder is hoping to be part of the final 23-man squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
“Better late than never!” he grinned in his press conference at the Coverciano training ground.
“I did everything I could to deserve this call-up. I had a great season, the Coach gave me this chance and now I am doing my all.
“I’d never change the route I have taken so far, as I reached this stage and so there are no regrets,” added the former Brescia and West Ham United man.
“In football there are some who mature at 18, some at 25 and others at 30. In fact, some never mature at all. Each of us has his own tale to tell.
“I think I’ve grown up a great deal this year and I’m here to prove it. I’m playing my cards here with the utmost enthusiasm, then it’s up to the Coach to decide. I am a versatile player and can take on different roles.
“My future? My agents are working on it, but I am focused only on the Azzurri.”
