Mauri 'can't wait for interrogation'

Lazio captain Stefano Mauri “can’t wait to be interviewed” by police tomorrow after his arrest in the betting scandal.

He was arrested as part of the investigation into alleged match-fixing and a betting ring on Monday morning.

“Mauri can’t wait to be interviewed tomorrow. He’s champing at the bit to be heard,” said lawyer Matteo Melandri.

“He studied the paperwork carefully and found many more problems with the case than we could’ve done.

“He is very determined and found many holes in the evidence. It wasn’t easy for him to remember the phone calls, but he managed to reconstruct every passage and hopes to clarify them with the authorities tomorrow.”

Mauri has been kept in custody since Monday morning awaiting the

interrogation.

“He slept calmly and was treated very well by his cellmates. Everyone is very helpful, especially as it’s not usual for them to be sharing a cell with a famous football player.”
