Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi has revealed that Pietro Lo Monaco has been placed in control of the club’s day-to-day business, while Gigi De Canio has been confirmed as Coach.
The Marassi outfit have handed Lo Monaco a contract with the task of reviving the outfit’s fortunes after they almost got relegated this term.
“I’m taking quite a big step back,” Preziosi noted. “Lo Monaco’s contract will last for three years and he’s been given the CEO role, with the power to also act as a director general.
“I’m leaving Genoa in good hands with Lo Monaco.”
Preziosi was expected to make changes to how the club was run after he was heavily criticised by disgruntled fans this term.
“These fans are passionate and the team will have to honour this important aspect,” Lo Monaco himself commented.
“I’ll do all that I can in order for Italy’s oldest club to reach great objectives. I’ll look after all the aspects of the business and the management.
“Transfers? We’ll look to recall several players who have been sent out on loan to other clubs to gain experience.
“The Coach will still be Gigi De Canio and he’s been handed a one-year contract.”
Lo Monaco joins the port-based club after being such an instrumental figure at Catania over recent seasons.
De Canio replaced Alberto Malesani on the bench after April’s 4-1 home defeat to Siena.
