Fabio Capello is “ashamed” at the latest betting scandal to hit Italian football, but insists this country is “the best at prosecuting these crimes.”
There have been several arrests in the investigation into betting and alleged match-fixing, including Lazio captain Stefano Mauri.
“It makes us ashamed. It seems impossible that 30 years after we experienced a similar situation, people continue trying to fix games,” the former England manager told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“In terms of image, the Italians are the worst for this, but we are the best at prosecuting these crimes.”
