Verona missed out on promotion to Serie A this season, ultimately falling at the semi-final stage of the play-offs. It would have be second successive promotion for the team, following their return to Serie B at the end of 2010-11.

Despite being in Serie C1 just over a year ago, Gibellini, who today confirmed his departure from the club to join Como, believes that the reason for not achieving promotion to the top flight lies with Mandorlini [pictured] and not the quality of the team.

In his departing Press conference, Gibellini also detailed the difficult relationship he had with Mandorlini and reportedly alleged that the Coach insulted and physically assaulted him after the first game of last season.

“Here there was not a war between myself and Mandorlini, but a victim and executioner,” Gibellini claimed.

“This year, Verona were thrown off from direct promotion to Serie A.

“However, the team, despite what Mandorlini repeatedly said, was competitive and equipped to pursuer the second promotion. These were the facts and I was right.”
