Italy will go into the Croatia game on Thursday in the knowledge that they have won just one of their last 10 games – in normal time – at major tournaments.
Since the 3-0 win over the Ukraine in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals, the Azzurri have only beaten France at Euro 2008 in 90 minutes.
In 2006, they beat Germany in the semi-finals after extra time, while they defeated France in the Final on penalties.
At the European Championship two years later, they lost to Holland, drew with Romania and beat France before their penalty exit to Spain.
With Marcello Lippi back in charge of the side, they flopped at World Cup 2010 with draws against Paraguay, New Zealand and a loss to Slovakia.
They drew with Spain during their Euro 2012 opener on Sunday. Italy have beaten Croatia just once in six games – a 4-0 friendly win in April 1942.
World Cup 2006: Italy 0-0 Germany (2-0 aet), Italy 1-1 France (5-3 pens)
