Sampdoria boss Giuseppe Iachini has opened the doors for an Antonio Cassano return – but they’ve been instantly closed by the club.

The Italian raised doubts over his future at Milan yesterday given the possible departure of Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain.

There are some reports this morning suggesting that a return to Doria could be possible and Iachini wouldn’t block such an option.

“I’m not aware of his situation at Milan, but Sampdoria would be ready to welcome him back should he want to return,” Iachini told Radio Mana Mana.

However, club chief Riccardo Garrone is less keen after he clashed with Cassano in 2010-11 which led to his January 2011 move to Milan.

“I have forgiven Cassano, I did that a long time ago,” Garrone told TMW. “But I don’t think that he is compatible with our needs to have a cohesive squad and a tranquil changing room.

“We are talking about a great champion, without doubt, but every now and again he discharges shrapnel that doesn’t benefit anyone.”
