The Blucerchiati have been in tentative negotiations with the Champions League-winning Coach this week in the hope that he can replace current boss Beppe Iachini, who has reportedly been deemed not up to standards for Samp’s first season back in Serie A.

Sky Sport 24 understand that a three-year deal has been offered to the Spaniard, who has been out of work since an unsuccessful six-month spell with Inter at the end of 2010, with a wage believed to be set at €1.5m for the first year, €2m for the second and €2.5m for the third.

The former Valencia and Liverpool Coach was reportedly on €5m a season under Massimo Moratti at San Siro.

It is believed that a decision from Benitez could be due as soon as the middle of next week, when Vice-President Edoardo Garrone returns from vacation.
