Rooney said this week that Roy Hodgson’s arrival on the bench saw an upturn in form for England, as instructions were no longer “lost in translation.”

This infuriated former Three Lions manager Capello’s assistant Italo Galbiati, who took to Italian Radio IES to respond.

“Rooney is ungrateful,” slammed Galbiati. “Capello made himself understood and ensured he was respected.

“Besides, football has only one language and he cannot teach us anything. England are physically strong and good on the counter-attack, but Italy will win 1-0.”

Galbiati was also asked about Daniele De Rossi stating Steven Gerrard was his “idol” this week.

“I would always choose De Rossi ahead of Gerrard.”
