Sampdoria and Barcelona will mark the 20th anniversary of their European Cup final this summer, by contesting the Gamper Trophy.

Via a statement released on Monday evening on their official website, Samp have confirmed that they will travel to Camp Nou for a prestigious reunion on August 20 with the Catalan giants.

The game will mark 20 years since the two sides met at Wembley for the final of the European Cup, which Barca won in extra-time through a Ronald Koeman free-kick.

The two teams will face off in the annual Gamper Trophy, which in its current format is a one-off game played each year for the cup named after the Catalans’ former President Joan Gamper.

The game will likely be Samp’s final friendly before kicking off their return to Serie A the following weekend of August 25 and 26.
