The young German, however, has been linked with a move to Roma given the interest in him from sporting director Walter Sabatini.

“I’ve never had any contact with Roma or any other club for Merkel,” agent Fabio Parisi told Gazzetta Giallorossa.

“I expect that he will be playing for Genoa. He belongs to them and the club have confirmed that he will stay.”

The 20-year-old played in 13 Serie A games for Genoa this term, before joining Milan on loan in January. He appeared in just three games for the Diavolo following his switch.
