Azzurri to wear black armbands

Italy will wear black armbands in the Euro 2012 semi-final as a sign of respect for a soldier killed on duty in Afghanistan.

Manuele Braj, who was 30 years old and married with an eight-month-old baby, died in an explosion at a police training camp in Adraskan on Monday.

The Azzurri have been given the all-clear to wear black armbands during tomorrow’s semi-final against Germany.

Milan’s official website also posted a message of condolence for Braj, who was a passionate supporter of the club.

However, it has caused controversy because Spain were denied the right to hold a minute’s silence ahead of tonight’s match against Portugal.

They wanted to mark Miki Roqué, the 23-year-old Real Betis player who died on Sunday after suffering from cancer, but UEFA insist they never received an official request.
