It is now official that Serse Cosmi is the new Coach of Siena after signing a two-year contract. “I’m honoured.”
The tactician had confirmed he was in advanced negotiations and has now completed the deal.
In charge of Lecce last season and unable to avoid their relegation, Cosmi has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
He replaces Giuseppe Sannino, who has moved to Palermo.
“This is a wonderful day for me and finally I have the chance to start working from the beginning of a season,” he told the official club website.
“That was my prerogative for 18 years of my career, then I stepped in for a few other Coaches and it certainly isn’t the ideal situation.
“I can say I’m happy with this choice and thank President Massimo Mezzaroma and director Stefano Antonelli. They believed in me and I hope to repay them for that faith.
“Siena have been in Serie A for many years with only one lapse into Serie B and always showed the right ambition to experience the top flight with belief and strength.
“This is an important club and I am honoured to be here.
“Now I just want to start working with the club and on the pitch to face a season that will certainly be difficult.
“I ask the lads to first of all realise we’re going into a tough test, but if we have that awareness and can overcome the difficulties, then it’ll be even more thrilling to reach our objectives.
“I don’t make promises to the fans, because in the summer everything’s easy... One of my objectives has always been for fans to recognise themselves in the team and see their passion mirrored by the players.
“I ask that of my side. Only by staying united as a team, club, fans and media can we win the difficult challenges that lie ahead.”
