The tough-tackling midfielder has again been the subject of strong transfer rumours this summer linking him with a move from Bologna to the Vesuviani. However, as he admitted today, no offer has come in, and maybe one won’t be.

“We always discuss me joining Napoli, every transfer window,” the 30-year-old reflected on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli this Thursday.

“But I am contracted to Bologna, I remain in contact with Federico Pastorello, my agent, and if there was something concrete then I would tell my club.

“Does Napoli interest me? What player would not want to play for the Azzurri? Right now I am still with Bologna, every year we talk about this but nothing ever happens.

“Napoli is a great club. If they want to sign a player, and I take the examples of Inler and Dzemaili, then they take him.

“Clearly this has not happened with me yet, maybe they don’t quite want me enough at Napoli.

“It won’t take €30-40m to buy me. I love Italian football and want to stay here to finish my career. Hearing rumours from the Azzurri, Milan and Inter fills me with pride.”
