Ciro Ferrara is Sampdoria’s new Coach to lead them on their return to Serie A, replacing Beppe Iachini in the position.

The former Napoli and Juventus” data-scaytid=”8″>Juventus defender, who also had a brief and unsuccessful spell as Coach of the Bianconeri, has been confirmed today as the man tasked with keeping Samp in the top flight, upon their return after a year in Serie B.

The news, which was inevitable after FIGC President Giancarlo Abete confirmed his release as Coach of the Italy Under-21s, was made official via a statement published on Sampdoria’s official website this Monday evening.

“Sampdoria announces that it has reached an agreement, which will be formalised in the coming days, with Ciro Ferrara in the capacity of head Coach for the first team.

“The company wishes to thank Giuseppe Iachini and his staff for their excellent and successful work done in recent months, culminating in promotion to Serie A.

“Sampdoria give their best wishes to Iachini and his staff and the best professional and personal fortune for the rest of their careers.”

Iachini was given an automatic extension to his contract for succeeding in taking the club back to Serie A, via the Serie B play-offs last term.

However, the club’s directors have been in talks with a number of candidates since the start of the summer, believed to be because of a lack of faith in Iachini’s ability to lead the team forward.
