Cristian Chivu has claimed today that his future at Inter was never in doubt and that signing a new contract was only a formality.
The Romanian’s original deal with the Nerazzurri was running to its conclusion this summer and, with no extension signed by the end of the season, speculation was rife that the defender would be leaving.
“My first choice was Inter. Last year I talked a lot with the club, but I was always calm because they would offer me a renewal.
“There was only a short period of uncertainty, because no-one knew if we would be playing in the Champions League.
“We reached a common agreement, there are some bonuses in the contract, but the money does not interest me.
“If I were interested in money then I would go somewhere else.”
