New Pescara Coach Giovanni Stroppa has given his first Press conference today and reflected on the difficult task facing him.

The Delfini are in Serie A for only the sixth season in its history and for the first time in 20 years. Whilst the team impressed last term on their way to winning the Serie B title, Stroppa is aware that the summer’s changes – that include his appointment to replace Zdenek Zeman – have so far left the club in an uncertain way.

“I would have liked to have left today for our training retreat with the full team,” complained the technician of his club’s limited transfer activity to date and the number of departures he has seen so far.

“The market, however, has provided some conditions that have affected some choices, and in Italy almost all the teams are departing for their training retreats still incomplete.

“Today, Coaches tend not to work in the market, but train the team and the players made available to them.

“I have told the club what is missing in Pescara. In particular we are looking for a goalkeeper, a central defender, a striker and also two wingers. I believe the attack needs to be rebuilt after the departures of a few weeks ago.”

The team have lost Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne and veteran Marco Sansovini from the attack. Coupled with the potential departures of youngsters Marco Verratti and Marco Capuano, Stroppa is aware of the task that faces him.

“However, my team will do well and we will try to impress even the most sceptical. We want to be protagonists and provide satisfaction to the fans.

“The important thing for Pescara is to avoid relegation, even if it comes at the last second of the last day.”
