Valon Behrami has hit back at criticism from Fiorentina fans as rumours persist of an imminent move to Napoli.
The Swiss midfielder, who nearly joined Juventus in January, is reportedly on the verge of a move to the San Paolo.
Amid criticism from Viola supporters, the 27-year-old has defended his decision to consider this move, which would be his second inside 18 months.
“I am not a mercenary and whoever thinks that doesn’t know anything about me,” declared the former Genoa, Verona, Lazio and West Ham man.
“Regardless of how this ends, the affection I have received from the Fiorentina fans has been unlike any I have ever received before.
“I have given everything for this shirt from the very beginning, so whoever has appreciated my attachment to it will understand my current situation.
“I have shown my connection to these people and I am certain that those who have loved me will continue to do so even if I leave Florence.”
Teammate Alessandro Gamberini is also reportedly the subject of negotiations between Fiorentina and Napoli.
