Andrea Ranocchia is ready to re-establish himself as one of Italy’s best central defenders after a troubled past campaign at Inter.

The stopper was signed by the Nerazzurri in January 2011, but he was limited to just 12 Serie A appearances in 2011-12 because of form and fitness issues.

“Last season I struggled to do anything really,” the former Bari man told Inter Channel after last night’s 3-2 win over Como.

“However, I've worked hard to reach this stage of pre-season in top shape with the hope that I can go on to have a great campaign.

“I’m striving every day to not just become a better player, but to become the best. I've learnt from the mistakes I made last term and I'm trying to make up for it.

“I've paid my dues and worked my way up through the different categories. Now I hope to stay here for as long as possible and prove that I'm worthy of this shirt.”

Ranocchia’s problems at San Siro saw him miss out on a place in Italy’s Euro 2012 squad. The Azzurri, without him, reached the Final.
