Fernandez takes Fiorentina medical

Sporting CP midfielder Matias Fernandez is in Florence this evening undergoing medical examinations ahead of completing a move to Fiorentina.

La Viola were thought to be on the verge of completing the 26-year-old’s transfer earlier this week, before sporting director Daniele Prade’s denial.

However, the Chilean international is at the club’s headquarters this evening to take his medical and to put pen to paper on an expected four-year contract.

Fernandez, who has an EU passport, will cost Fiorentina an initial €3m, which could rise should the club qualify for European competition.
