Marek Hamsik says he has no problem with the new role given to him by Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri this season.
The Azzurri are expected to play with a 3-5-2 this term after the decision to sell Ezequiel Lavezzi to Paris Saint-Germain.
The change in shape, from 3-4-2-1, means that the former Brescia star is being asked to play in a deeper role with more defensive duties.
“To be honest, I am used to it,” Hamsik stated. “I played in midfield for Napoli under Roberto Donadoni and Edy Reja.
“By playing this way we are providing more cover for the defence.”
Hamsik, last season used as an attacking midfielder, got on the scoresheet on Sunday as the Azzurri collected a 2-1 friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen.
“These games are needed in order for us to be in top shape for the Italian Super Cup,” he stated ahead of the August 11 tie against Juventus.
Hamsik concluded by hailing the ability of Lorenzo Insigne given his impressive pre-season displays to date. “Insigne has already demonstrated his true value.”
