Goran Pandev has hailed the ability of Napoli teammate Lorenzo Insigne by likening him to Barcelona sensation Lionel Messi.
The 21-year-old has returned to his hometown club after spending the last two seasons on loan at Foggia and Pescara.
“I got to know him in pre-season at Dimaro, he’s a great kid and we all saw what he is capable of in the win over Bayer Leverkusen,” Pandev told Radio Marte.
“Insigne is a strong player and he has personality. He reminds me of Messi in the way he plays and dribbles, even if Messi is the best in the world.
“I think he has a chance to have a career like the Barcelona phenomenon.”
The Italian Under-21 international has been recalled to the Stadio San Paolo after Ezequiel Lavezzi was sold to Paris Saint-Germain.
“Insigne is different to Lavezzi,” Pandev added. “They are similar in one-on-one situations, but I think Lorenzo has a better eye for goal than Ezequiel. It will be up to Insigne to prove himself.”
The Macedonian striker is now a Napoli player outright after impressing last season on loan from Inter.
“My Napoli story changed after my brace against Juventus,” he added. “I can still remember the cheers at the Stadio San Paolo. It was just a shame we didn’t manage to win that one.
“Juventus bring me luck, but I expect a difficult game in Beijing on August 11. We want to return to Naples with the Italian Super Cup.”
