Maurizio Zamparini has high hopes for Palermo’s long-term future, revealing a specific ambition to reach the Champions League by 2016.
The Rosanero are marking 10 years under Zamparini’s control this summer, a decade that has seen the club taken from Serie B regularity to a stable footing in Serie A .
Talking to reporters today, Zamparini revealed that where he foresaw that achievement, he now sees another around the corner.
“When I arrived I promised the fans that we would return to Serie A within three years,” he enthused on Thursday.
“We are proud to have succeeded and given joy to this city. Now I hope and I promise that within four years we can reach the Champions League.”
Currently, only the top three sides in Italy qualify for the Champions League, with the third-place team having to go through a final pre-competition qualifying round before making the tournament proper.
