Montella has been financed to bring several experienced players into his squad, while star player Stevan Jovetic has still not been allowed to leave.

The Coach, appointed earlier this summer, has praised the figures in the Fiorentina boardroom for their assistance in building excitement around this season’s team.

“In recent days the President has given us some new players that I felt we needed,” Montella enthused, referring to the Della Valle brothers and official President Mario Cognigni.

“They kept all their promises. We’ve got so much enthusiasm for the future. The enthusiasm is growing, even if we’re still missing something. We’re on the right track.”

Montella was speaking from the club’s pre-season base of Moena, a northern Italian town where the Viola have enjoyed a fruitful build-up to the new campaign.

“We have had a good time in Moena and, apart from a small mistake, everyone has been fit and available. We were totally fine. I had been to Moena as a player with Sampdoria.”

After installing Montella as Coach this summer, the club have signed the likes of Mounir El Hamdaoui, Juan Cuadrado, Francesco Della Rocca, Emiliano Viviano, Matias Fernandez and Borja Valero. More arrivals are expected, with Alberto Aquilani thought to be joining Montella’s ranks imminently.
